Shai Hope Hits Four Centuries in Six Matches Against India Across ODI and T20I Formats
Shai Hope has scored four centuries in his last six matches against India across ODIs and T20Is. With three T20I hundreds already to his name, can the West Indies batter reach a new milestone in Bengaluru?
Hope was dismissed for just 12 runs in the opening ODI against India. However, he bounced back in the second match with a 104-run innings before producing an unbeaten 162 in the third match. His performances in the final two ODIs established his ability to score big against India.
The action then shifted to the T20I format, where Hope has continued to trouble the Indian bowlers. Of the four T20I matches played so far, he has scored two centuries. He smashed an unbeaten 102 in the T20I matches in Ranchi and Hyderabad, remaining not out on both occasions to complete his hundreds.
Shai Hope Has Three T20I Centuries So Far
With these performances, Hope has scored four centuries in his last six matches against India across the two formats. Two of those hundreds have come in T20 Internationals, taking his overall tally in the format to three centuries. He had already scored one T20I century before the ongoing series.
If Hope scores another hundred, he will reach four T20I centuries. So far, only five batters have managed to score four or more centuries in T20 Internationals, making the West Indies batter's next innings particularly significant.
Five Batters Have Scored Four or More T20I Centuries
Former India captain Rohit Sharma and Australia's Glenn Maxwell have scored five centuries each in T20 Internationals. England's Phil Salt, Austria's Karanbir Singh and India's Suryakumar Yadav have registered four centuries each.
The focus will now be on whether Hope can join this group by scoring his fourth T20I century in the final match of the ongoing India versus West Indies series, or whether he will have to wait for another opportunity. The final match is scheduled to take place in Bengaluru.
If Hope manages to score another century in Bengaluru, India could face a difficult challenge against the West Indies batter, who has already demonstrated his ability to produce big innings in both ODI and T20I cricket.
